The City Engineering Office, headed by Engr. Ashley Albana, is set to inspect the development of Isla Pawikan located in Brgy. Binaliw, Calbayog City. The development aims to establish the island as a full-fledged tourism spot, ideal for diving activities.

Phase 1 has been completed and is ready for inspection. It included the construction of a two-story building with restrooms, a view deck overlooking the seas of Samar and the coastal barangays, and a trail path leading to the view deck.

Further development plans for Phase 2 include the expansion of the current trail and the addition of Solar Light Beam posts which can help illuminate the island and assist in the apprehension and control of illegal fishing in the surrounding areas.

Local and foreign tourism play a major role in the economic development of Calbayog City. The impact of the pandemic has brought tourism to a standstill, negatively impacting the livelihood of many Calbayognons and the potential income of the city from many local tourism offerings. With the vaccination program in full force, the city hopes that our borders can be re-opened and bring in tourists by next year.
